THE COORDINATION COST

The project only moves when you return to the right tab and pass the result along.

WITH A CLEAR WORKFLOW

Task relationships and configured operating rules help the work proceed.

Manual coordination is a reasonable starting point

For an occasional isolated task, opening an agent and giving it a brief is straightforward. You retain direct control, avoid configuring another system, and can change direction in conversation.

The cost appears when the same brief, instructions, access setup, and status checks repeat across sessions. A task with several dependent steps can leave you acting as the message bus between agents.

Compare the work you actually do

With manual coordination, you choose the next agent, assemble context, paste prior output, watch spending in separate places, and reconstruct the result for review.

With Norc, project context, task dependencies, routing, recorded run costs, and evidence share a workspace. You still configure access, define good tasks, review the output, and maintain the execution environment. Orchestration moves coordination into a system; it does not remove accountability.

  • Context: repeated briefings versus project context assembled for runs.
  • Handoffs: manually transferring output versus connected dependent tasks.
  • Visibility: separate sessions versus project-linked run records.
  • Control: individual habits versus configured budgets and autonomy policies.

Use a small comparison before changing the whole process

Choose a recurring workflow and note how much effort goes into briefing, handoffs, status checks, and corrections. Try the same kind of work with explicit task dependencies and shared context.

Compare accepted output and total human effort, including the initial configuration. If coordination is not a real bottleneck yet, an orchestration workspace may add unnecessary overhead. If the same transitions keep interrupting your day, it is worth testing.

Practical questions.

Should I replace every direct agent conversation?

No. Direct conversations remain useful for exploration and isolated tasks. Use coordinated workflows where repeated handoffs and project controls justify the setup.

Will orchestration reduce my costs?

That depends on the workflow and output quality. Measure setup, review effort, recorded usage, and accepted results rather than assuming a saving.
